Granite Polishing

Granite is a durable stone, however, granite floors and counters can become dulled over time from normal wear, dirt and soap and cleaner residues and other contaminants filling and clogging the pores. Kauai Scratch Removal can resolve these issues and polish your granite to restore it's depth, shine and clarity like the day it was installed.

Granite Honing

Most granite is very dense and more resistant to damage such as scratches and other wear, but they can happen. When they do, honing is one step of the granite restoration process. While honing and sheen changes are more common on other stones such as marble, travertine, limestone and such, it's not very common on granite but we at Kauai Scratch Removal are equipped to handle this and we do provide this service. Honing, or changing granite from a polished to a honed finish to add slip resistance to a floor might be the most common purpose of honing a granite floor, for example.

Mineral Deposit Removal

Mineral buildup is common on granite counters and vanities around sinks and faucets. On Kauai this is especially true due to the high mineral content in our tap water. Mineral deposits are visibly unsightly, certainly dull the sheen and are tough to remove. Kauai Scratch Removal can remove the mineral deposits, polish the affected area to match and return your granite back to it's youthful beauty.

Chip Repair

Chips on the edges of counters is relatively common, especially around sinks. Some varieties are more prone to this type of damage than others. Kauai Scratch Removal specializes in professional, color matched chip filling and repair. KSR also provides similar remedies for surface pitting.

Seam Repair and Crack Repair

Uneven seams on your granite counters can be both a nuisance and unsightly. Kauai Scratch Removal can level most affected and adjacent surfaces then hone, flatten and polish the uneven seam. When cracks appear, Kauai Scratch Removal can help investigate and verify if the conditions allow for a repair to correct the cause. We then apply the proper adhesive for the stone and conditions, close the crack tight and provide proper support. We mix our own custom array of filler colors to match the variations in your stone.

Rod Repair and Breakage Repair

Although it's fortunately not very common, granite can break. Provided the larger pieces have not been lost, Kauai Scratch Removal can repair and fortify these breaks. Another occasional issue is sink support rods found notched in below and along the narrow area at the front and back of the sink. When steel rods are used and come in contact with moisture, the rod rusts and expands with such force that it can break apart the granite around it. We can surgically remove these rods and repair the damage as a minimally invasive, cost effective alternative to replacement.
