Cleaning and Sealing
Kauai Scratch Removal offers professional deep cleaning and sealing of natural stone as well as deep cleaning tile and grout. Depending on the type of stone or tile and the overall condition, we are ready and able to employ 200-1200 psi cleaning/extraction equipment, standard and weighted floor machines with various brush attachments and pads and an array of soil lifting cleaners and solutions. Honing
Honing consists of using diamond abrasives of varying grits to abrade and refine the surface of natural stone. Honing is performed to remove etching, scratches and other damage, or to change the sheen of the stone. When talking about a honed surface, this is describing a lower sheen matte or satin finish.
Polishing
Polishing is typically the final step in a gloss or high gloss finish. This is achieved using any one or a combination of polishing powders or pastes, diamond impregnated polyester pads and in some cases where appropriate, crystallizers.
Aside from the different types of natural stones, there are often thousands of variations of each type. This means there are many different methods and often combinations of different methods to achieve the proper results depending on certain characteristics of each specific stone. Kauai Scratch Removal can identify these characteristics and formulate the best method possible to bring out the best finish possible on your natural stone surfaces.
Etch Removal
Etching is actual damage and appears lighter than the undamaged, surrounding stone whereas actual staining will mostly appear darker. Calcite based stones like marble, travertine and limestone are prone to etching. Etching is caused when acidic foods or liquids such as citrus juice, soda's, vinegar and ketchup or acidic cleaners come in contact with the minerals in the surfaces of these materials.
It's important to note that sealers do not prevent etching as sealers are only meant to prevent penetration. Acidic substances need only come in contact with the surface to cause etching. Kauai Scratch Removal can professionally remove etching and hone or polish the damaged area to blend with the surrounding surface.
Stain Removal
Stains typically appear darker than the surrounding surface whereas etching appears lighter. There are many sources of staining but most are broken down into categories. Stain removal itself is a relatively simple process that just takes a little time and patience. As such, we not only offer stain removal services but since it's relatively simple to do, Kauai Scratch removal is also happy to advise anyone who would like to spare the costs and walk them through the process step by step. Scratch Removal
Does Kauai Scratch Removal removes scratches? Why of course we do! Most scratches are very carefully honed out. The deeper the scratch the wider the honing pattern and repair, all to ensure no visible distortion, then honed or polished to match the existing surrounding area. In the case of deep scratches or gouges and if the circumstances allow, these can sometimes be filled as a cost saving alternative. This won't work on small or hairline scratches as fillers won't adhere properly.
Crack Repair
Cracks can develop due to settling of the home or building, sub par installations, impacts or maybe during installation as some stones can be quite brittle. Most often, as long as the underlying cause of the cracking is corrected, they can be filled then honed and polished if and as needed.
Seam Repair
Uneven seams not only don't look that great but as anyone with uneven seams knows, everything seems to catch on them. Kauai Scratch Removal can professionally correct these issues by surgically raising the low side, honing and polishing as necessary the high side, or both, in order to flatten your seams. We can also fill the seam and attempt to match your colors to make it as least noticeable as possible.
Break Repair
Stone and even hard granite counters can break somehow or another. Whatever the cause, as long as the majority f the larger, key pieces are still available and using the proper adhesives, Kauai Scratch Removal can repair most broken natural stone, mix filler colors on the spot to match as closely as possible then hone and polish as needed to match the surrounding finish.
Floor Flattening
No matter how good the tile setter, even the best would be hard pressed to install a floor perfectly flat. The fact is lippage, or uneven tiles, is common although sometimes it's barely if at all noticeable while some floors you feel like you might trip over a high or lipped tile or it's just uncomfortable under your feet. Whatever the case, Kauai Scratch Removal has the equipment and experience to flatten your floors. Once flattened, future polishing and maintenance becomes much easier and the results always better. In some cases, it's essential to flatten some floors before they can be refinished or polished properly.
Grout Services
Grout can get old, dirty, stained, faded and can crack or just fall apart over time. Kauai Scratch Removal offers grout cleaning, repair, replacement and colorsea services to correct these issues. We also use a special epoxy that is mixed with standard, off-the-shelf grouts that are excellent for the problematic areas like corners and wall-to-floor transitions in showers for example. We can also help with removal of most grout haze and residues.
Shower Restoration
Over time, showers can get a little funky with all the soaps, hair and body products we use along with their wet, steamy environment. We can simply clean and remove soap scum from your shower walls and floors, replace problematic grout, clean and polish your shower glass or basically restore your whole shower. We can even refinish, hone and polish your natural stone shower walls. We also clean porcelain and ceramic shower tile.
