Quartzite is a gorgeous natural stone and is not to be confused with the "quartz", which is man made and of course very much different. Quartzite is very durable and known to be harder and more stain resistant than granite and a true quartzite is acid resistant.

Quartzite started it's life as quartz based sand on a beach, desert or similar. As the sand below the surface is compressed, over time the sand grains adhere to one another and forms sandstone. When this sandstone is driven further below ground via tectonic activity, it is subjected to extreme temperatures and compression causing the individual sand grains to change shape and actually fuse together. Eventually we see this material resurface, again via tectonic activity, millions of years after it began its slow transformation..
